Accessibility

Everyone should be able to use Front Door, on any device and with any assistive technology.

Our goal

Front Door aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Washington's accessibility standard sets the same level for state agency websites.

What we build in

  • The first link on every page skips to the main content, and the Menu works with a keyboard.
  • Text and buttons are built to a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1.
  • Status is shown with words, not only with color.
  • Motion stops when your device asks for less motion.
  • Examples that change on their own have a Pause button, and they stop after two rounds.

What we are still fixing

  • Front Door's pages are only in English for now. The chat answers in the language you write in. We will add other languages to the pages once each translation is checked.
  • Filled agency PDF forms may be hard to use with a screen reader. Ask the agency for another format if you need one.
  • A few search boxes and buttons still need clearer labels for screen readers.
  • We are still checking every page against WCAG 2.2.

If something does not work for you

You can get the same help by phone. Call 211 and a person will help you find services.
